From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.  And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, ‘God forbid it, Lord!  This must never happen to you.’  But he turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind me, Satan!  You are a stumbling-block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.’

Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.  For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.  For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life?  Or what will they give in return for their life?

‘For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done.  Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.’

Emmaus Group is a diverse, friendly group reflecting on a Bible reading every Tuesday, 5-6pm, at Paul Church Hall (* please note that Emmaus will not be meeting in the hall on Sept 1, 8 and 15.  Please contact paulwarden@penleecluster.org.uk for details).  All are very welcome.  Kevin

Night Church at St Mary’s – 6pm to 9pm every Wednesday, join us for dinner, reflection and singing.  A warm welcome awaits.  This is a place for everyone.  Victoria

Psalm Prayer Group – Every Thursday at 11:15am we read, pray and meditate on a Psalm.  Come and join us at St Mary’s.  Josie

Meditation Group – Every Friday a Meditation group meets at St Mary’s church at 10:30am.  This is a welcoming and supportive space for everyone in the community. Vicky

Christian Meditation and Contemplative Prayer – Last Monday of the month at St Mary’s at 6pm.  Next 31/08.  We look forward to being together in silent worship. Vicky

Breakfast and Breathe is having a summer break and will resume again on Monday 7th September.

Little Lights is having a summer break.

Breakfast Church and Holiday Club Celebration

At St Mary’s church on Sunday 6th September we’ll be providing croissants and coffees from 10.30am, and then in the service we hope that some of the families who have been part of this summer’s Holiday Club, will take an active part and tell us (and maybe show us!) something of what they’ve been doing.  I know there’s been a lot of generous support of the Holiday Club, from people within the cluster, and this is a lovely way to acknowledge that kindness.  Also, this will be a lovely event to invite people along to.  Rev Jacky and Eliza

Proposed Pastoral Scheme affecting Penlee Cluster – Consultation

The Truro Diocesan Mission and Pastoral Committee has prepared a draft Pastoral Scheme for our four churches in the Cluster, which will unify them as one benefice.  The scheme includes a number of important proposals for reorganisation and we are all invited to make representations either for or against by 14th September. Holiday Club

In the last couple of weeks, holiday club have been done some filming with Alex, been entertained by John Brolly telling the story of the Cornish Knockers, and visited Land’s End where we played golf, watched a movie, and explored the area including Greeb Farm where we fed the animals. We also walked along the cycle path to Marazion, where we had a beach day followed by ice creams!

Thanks again to all who have given so generously to enable us to run holiday club and give the children these opportunities. We are looking forward to using St Mary’s Church for the final day of holiday club this week on Wednesday, and our breakfast service on Sunday 6th September. Thank you to the church wardens for welcoming us there.  Jenny

St Mary’s church Tidy Up

Hosts required for St Mary’s

St Mary’s is open everyday from 10am until 12 midday.  We welcome all kinds of visitors, from tourists to homeless people, from people seeking solace and peace, to those who wish to light a candle in memory of a loved one or to pray.  It is an important part of our outreach and of our pastoral ministry.  Hosts need to be able to welcome people, to listen to their stories, to offer prayer if required, and to make coffee.  We need your help.  Please contact Penny if you would like to explore this way of serving our Lord and our community.  Thank you.  Vicky

Cluster Harvest Service

Sunday 27th September 11am

Everyone across the cluster is invited to come together for a Harvest celebration at St Pol de Leon, where we will collect items for the foodbank and give thanks for all of God’s provision, in our lives and in our wider communities. Current requests for the Foodbank include tinned vegetables and fruit, tea bags, coffee and sugar, tinned meals and soups; all very appropriate for harvest gifts. This will be the last Tuesday Talk of the 2026 season,  and the third time we’ve enjoyed John’s talks, always thoughtful, funny, irreverent and simply delightful. If you’ve heard him before you won’t need persuading to come on 1st September for another treat, just tell everyone you know who hasn’t heard him what they’ve missed and encourage them to come too! 

There will also be news of “Tuesday Talks – The Future” which you won’t want to miss.

Doors open 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm.  £5 entry includes nibbles.
