Future for the newsletter
Dear friends, I will be putting together my last newsletter on Sunday 2nd November before taking a break, initially for three months. I will look to see if it’s viable for me to take it back on at the start of February 2026. If you would like the newsletter to continue and think you might be able to do it, please get in touch with me at penleeclusternewsletter@gmail.com for a chat about what it involves. I will provide a full handover for anyone who’s happy to volunteer. In the meantime, as mentioned above, there will be no newsletter on Sunday 28th September, but then it’ll be back on Sunday 5th October, running straight through to 2nd November. – Josie

Please consider holding a minute’s silence on this day and to pray for the following: an end to hostilities; the unfettered humanitarian access to Gaza; the release of Israeli hostages and for work to continue to secure a lasting peace.

Sustainable Sunday at St. John’s Church
Sunday 5th October
We will be holding a Sustainable Sunday event at St John’s Church on Sunday 5th October from 9.00am -11:30am.

The aim of this is to promote more sustainable lifestyles and therefore is linked to looking after God’s creation and also to help children and families struggling with the cost of living. There will be a free play session for children at Sea Life Soft Play, plus a clothes bank and book bank and simple refreshments with suggested donation. We are aiming to make this mainly a clothes and book ‘swap’ session, but you will be able to pick up an item of clothing for 50p or a book for £1.00. The book can then be ‘swapped’ in at a future ‘Sustainable Sunday’ event. The plan is to have the clothes bank and book bank open once a month. We have some resources to start but we need your help! Please donate any good quality items of children’s clothing (including school uniform) and books (either adults’ or children’s). If you would like to buy a book to help start this then ‘The Works’ in Penzance often has good offers on classic picture books for children or you could buy an item of clothing to donate. Please take any items to St. Pol de Léon, St. Peter’s or St. Mary’s Church. Donations will be collected on Wednesday 1st October. If you could label your donations ‘Sustainable Sunday’ that would be very helpful.
This initiative is a collaboration of St John’s Church, St Mary’s Act on Poverty Group, a response to Creationtide, Penlee Cluster Family Workers, Molly and Jenny and Sea Life Soft Play. In the words of Penlee Cluster let’s ‘reach out together’. – Hilary, St. Mary’s Church

Support NightChurch this Autumn

As the colder months draw near, NightChurch is seeking donations of warm, practical clothing and sleeping bags to support those in need. We especially welcome: waterproofs, coats, jumpers, fleeces, and other essentials for both men and women. Donations can be brought to St Mary’s. Thank you for your generosity and support. – Victoria, NightChurch Coordinator
Children’s Play Area
St. Mary’s Church
Do you have spare beanbags, cushions, wicker baskets, carpet/mats, throws or anything that you think would help to create an inviting children’s area within St Mary’s Church? We are looking to transform the area into a space where children and families can spend some time, and incorporate an area for reflection that we will aim to change with the seasons. To be kind to the environment, we are looking to rehome and repurpose where possible. If you have anything that you think might be helpful, please let me know, at jenny.orpwood@penleecluster.org.uk
Many thanks in advance for your help. – Jenny, Family Worker
