Jesus Appears to the Disciples

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’   After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side.  Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.  Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.  As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’  When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.  If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’

Donations in support of the work of Christian Aid and in particular The Beacon of Hope community in Kenya please pop into St Mary’s.  If any other churches in the Cluster would like information about this then please contact Hilary.

There is no Breakfast and Breathe this week as it’s May Bank Holiday we will meet again on Monday 1st June.

Send a sheep!

Did you know there are 1277 days from birth to nursery?  The ‘1277 Make Them Count‘ group support church toddler groups throughout the country with resources and prayer.  https://1277.org.uk/

June is the national month of prayer for toddler groups.
Resources for this month are focussed on Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and each toddler group is encouraged to send a sheep to a central address.  All the sheep (with the toddler group name attached) will be taken to parliament on June 1st by members of 1277, where there will be a reception for invited toddler group leaders, MPs and others to highlight the role of these groups.

Thank you to a parishioner who has generously donated a toy sheep which will be sent, alongside a copy of our display of sheep in the children’s area, to represent St Mary’s and St Peter’s Little Lights groups.  Thank you too to the Breakfast and Breathe group, who made the sheep for the display, reflecting that the sheep are as diverse as the people who use the churches!
You might like to remember in prayer the work that is done with toddlers in The Penlee Cluster during June, the national month of prayer for toddler groups.  Jenny

Experience After Easter

On Tuesday 19th May, St Mary’s School students from years 1-6 came to St Mary’s Church to take part in prayer stations covering After Easter, Ascension, Pentecost and Trinity.  There were multi-sensory activities which the children enjoyed as well as insights into the festivals that take place at this time of year.  Thank you to the volunteers for planning and delivering the stations.  We have left the displays up in church so do have a look!   Jenny

NightChurch

Thy Kingdom Come: God with Us

This year, NightChurch will be taking part in Thy Kingdom Come through a number of simple interactive prayer stations around St Mary’s Church.  The stations offer different ways to pause and pray, with themes such as hope, forgiveness, journey, community, and light.  Whether prayer is something familiar or something completely new, NightChurch is a space to simply be, to reflect, and to encounter.  Thy Kingdom Come is a time of prayer between Ascension and Pentecost.  As we unite with Christians around the world together to pray, not just as individuals but as a community.  We are looking forward to this shared time of prayer.  Victoria

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
Teresa of Avila.
