Gospel reading
After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, “Peace to this house!” And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the labourer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them, “The kingdom of God has come near to you.” But whenever you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say, “Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off in protest against you. Yet know this: the kingdom of God has come near.” Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.’
The seventy returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, in your name even the demons submit to us!’ He said to them, ‘I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning. See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing will hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.’ [Luke 10:1-11, 16-20]

Anchorage Community
an invitation to explore
St. Mary’s Church on Monday 14th July
Many of you will know that several years ago a group at St Mary’s began pursuing the vision for a new intentional community to support one another in our following of Christ and so strengthen our ministry to the wider Penzance community. We presented our ideas to the Diocesan Staff, but then Covid and the ensuing disruption intervened, so the vision was shelved. However, during the vacancy we have revisited the vision and believe it to be still highly relevant to the present time, not only for St Mary’s but for the deanery as a whole.
The idea is not to add burdensome activity but to make room in our lives for a regular pattern of prayer, Bible reading and worship and to do so in small fellowship groups, with shared meals and other activities.
On Monday 14th July there will be a gathering at St. Mary’s at which people who MIGHT be interested in sharing in this can hear more about it and make comments and suggestions. Coming to this would IN NO WAY commit people to participating! Please come along and find out more. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start.
Mazey Day
It was a privilege to serve in our Lord’s house on Mazey Day.
Thank you to everyone who made it possible, from the scone and cake bakers, to the NightChurch guests who ran the bric-a-brac stall, and all the dedicated servers, washer-uppers, and table layers. It was a joyful and welcoming open church event, and thanks to the combined efforts of the Wellbeing and NightChurch teams, we raised over £500. – Penny, St. Mary’s

Annual Celebration of Lay Ministry at Truro Cathedral
Saturday 19th July
All commissioned Local Lay Leaders, Local Lay Pioneers, Local Pastoral Ministers and Local Worship Leaders are invited to attend the annual Celebration of Lay Ministry which this year will be held in Truro Cathedral on Saturday 19th July at 11.00am. This service provides an opportunity to celebrate and thank the hundreds of commissioned volunteers who give their time and gifts to further the work of the church here in Truro Diocese. The service will be led by Bishop David along with Bishop Hugh and Archdeacon Kelly.
During the service we will commission new lay ministers. There will also be an opportunity for current lay ministers, including those that have been recommissioned in their parishes, to renew their commitment to their chosen ministry. Family and friends are welcome to join us too.
After the service refreshments will be served in the Chapter House.
If you are intending to join us it would help with our planning if you could complete this google form indicating the number of people you will be attending with, here: https://tinyurl.com/bh3dsmsa
