Gospel Reading [NRSVA] Mark 1.4-11
John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. He proclaimed, ‘The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.’
The Baptism of Jesus
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.’
A Heartfelt Thank You from NightChurch
Dear friends,
Thank you so much for your generosity in raising £474.85 for NightChurch at the Harvest Festival last Sunday. Your kindness and support will help keep the kitchen operations running.

Sharing dinner around the bigger table continues to be an important part of the NightChurch ministry. It is a place where people can come together, share a healthy meal, and enjoy fellowship and friendship. In some weeks, we have served as many as 35 meals.
Your generosity helps make this possible and means so much to the community. With heartfelt thanks and every blessing from all at NightChurch. Victoria
Thank you!
Thank you so much to everyone who came along last Saturday, to St Mary’s Church, for the big tidy up. It has been transformed! A couple of the guests from Night Church stayed for hours helping, and some of the team stayed most of the day… there was much to do. Mousehole Male Voice Choir (Sunday evening concert) commented that they love the extra space as well as the improved acoustics. I’m so grateful that we now have a clear, uncluttered worship space. Thank you! Rev Jacky

St Mary’s Act on Poverty Group – St John’s Clothes Rack
We are pleased to announce the St John’s Clothes Rack starting on Wednesday 14th October 2pm -4pm. This is a reworking of the successful Sustainable Sunday events we held previously. We are pleased to be back at St John’s and will be holding this event in the Community room. We are aiming for the clothes rack to be open every 2nd Wednesday of each month.

At the clothes rack you take what you need and donate if you can. We are not expecting money but clothes to sustain the project. We have children’s clothes and shoes from 0 -14 years and adult clothes and shoes. Over the next two weeks if you are having an Autumn clear out, please bring clean and washed clothes to your church and label the bags ‘Clothes Rack’ and I will collect these on Friday 9th October. Alternatively you could gift new children clothes. The Clothes Rack is for all and is prompting us to live more sustainably.
Please support the launch of this new initiative during Church Action on Poverty Week and Cornwall’s Challenge Poverty week. For more information please contact Hilary.
