Gospel Reading [NRSVA] – Rewards

‘Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.  Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.’

Church of England apologises

‘The Church of England has apologised for its role in historical adoption practices, particularly in mother and baby homes. Mothers and adoptees who came into contact with these homes have described the profound and lasting impact of these experiences. Published alongside new research ( https://www.churchofengland.org/sites/default/files/2026-06/historical-adoption-practices-report-web.pdf) into these homes, the apology recognises the impact on people affected and sets out the Church’s commitment to listening, learning and responding with honesty and compassion.’ – The Church of England

To read more from this statement, please see here:  https://www.churchofengland.org/about/libraries-and-archives/family-history/church-england-apologises-role-post-war-historical-adoption-practices

The Diocese of Truro has also released the following:

‘Following the Church of England’s apology for its role in post-war historical adoption practices today (Thursday June 18), the Diocese of Truro recognises the profound impact that historic adoption practices have had on individuals and families across Cornwall.  We acknowledge that many mothers experienced pressure, stigma and a lack of choice, and that the separation of children from their families has caused lasting trauma.  We are deeply sorry for the pain that has been experienced.’

Cluster Service at St John’s church

Thank you for attending the Civic Service at St John’s on Sunday 21st June.  It was well attended with over 200 people.  We also want to thank Alex Farrell for carrying the head from St John’s Hall, and we extend our appreciation to MusicAbility for providing the music and Kevin Lane who played the organ.  Derath for planning and leading the service and Adam for preaching.   And to all those who helped to clean and tidy up getting the church spic and span!  Lastly, to Barbara, Jackie and Debra for organising and serving refreshments.  Brian

Volunteer with NightChurch Pz

Could you spare a few hours to make a difference in our community?  NightChurch Pz is looking for volunteers who can commit to 3 hours on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis.

Inspired by our Christian faith, we are passionate about seeing everyone in our community experience life to the full. We believe that every person deserves access to a safe space, supportive relationships, and opportunities to thrive and reach their full potential.

By bringing together local churches, we aim to journey alongside people facing difficult circumstances, offering hope, encouragement, and practical support for the future.

Might you be able to support in areas including:

  • Welcome and hospitality
  • Listening and conversation
  • Prayer support
  • Creative activities

Whether you have experience in these areas or simply a heart for people, we would love to hear from you.

Please do get in contact: Victoria, NightChurch Coordinator nightchurchpenzance@gmail.com
