NightChurch Penzance News
Following my recent appointment as Project Coordinator, I wanted to introduce myself to the cluster congregations and share some exciting updates about NightChurch. I worship at St Mary’s and I am delighted to be stepping into this role and would like to start by thanking everyone who has supported and contributed to NightChurch so far. This comes at a meaningful time, as I near the completion of my degree in Theology, Ministry and Mission at St Mellitus College. I am working closely with managers, Vicky and Eliza, to continue building on the wonderful foundation, and I am passionate about creating spaces of welcome, connection, and hope.

For those who are new to NightChurch, it is a community of friendship that welcomes everyone: a place to simply be, reflect, connect, and find peace alongside others. At the heart of NightChurch is the promise of Jesus: life in all its fullness. Together, the team is committed to creating an environment where everyone can flourish. You might have noticed the plant pots outside St Mary’s starting to bloom: a beautiful sign of growth and new beginnings. These were planted by some of our NightChurch visitors who expressed an interest in gardening. A huge thank you to Christina Beale for donating the bulbs, Roz Peskett for the compost, and to everyone who brought in pots. We hope this is the start of more gardening and transformation.
Last Wednesday was a real celebration as we enjoyed a musical duet, celebrated a birthday, and shared a meal and fellowship around the table. It was a joy to witness so many conversations and new connections forming.
We are excited about the ideas emerging from our visitors and are looking forward to planning the months ahead. Please keep NightChurch in your prayers, share it with friends and contacts. All are welcome as we meet every Wednesday evening from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. With thanks and hope – Victoria, St. Mary’s

Paul Church Talk:
‘Luthier to the stars’
Julyan Wallis
Tuesday 6th May

Julyan is a regular on the BBC1 Repair Shop programme as its guitar expert. He’ll tell us about his life growing up locally and how he became a guitar restorer (luthier). It’s taken three years to pin him down to speak to us, so don’t miss his recollections about caring for the instruments of the stars and restorations achieved in seemingly ‘no hope’ cases. Nibbles/wine from 7.00pm, talk at 7.30pm, followed by debate and more nibbles/wine.
A Taste of Palestine in Paul
Saturday 10th May
On Saturday 10th May there’ll be an unusual event taking place in Paul, just outside Penzance. Too often all people get to hear about Palestine is bad news, but there’s much more to this vibrant country than that. The Palestinian people are heirs to a rich cultural tradition in which Islamic, Christian, Jewish and more ancient elements all played their part. We want to remind the world, or our small part of it at least, of the strength and vitality of Palestinian traditions by celebrating their cuisine and the day-to-day life of its people.

Come and enjoy some music and fine Middle Eastern food with us, followed by a well-illustrated talk by Palden Jenkins about the West Bank and Palestine’s situation. The venue is Paul Village Hall, TR19 6TY and there is ample parking. Doors open at 6.00pm. Tickets £10 in advance. To book, text Alison on 07963 167649. All proceeds will go to the Hope Flowers School in Bethlehem, which has for over 35 years been a pioneer in constructive peace education for children in conflict areas.

OTHER INFORMATION & EVENTS
Befriending Open Evening at High Street Methodist Church
Tuesday 6th May
A proposal has been put forward to Churches Together in Penzance Area for perhaps a NEW Project. The Kernow Gateway of Social Prescribers and other community groups are telling CTiPA of a huge unmet need for befrienders in our West Penwith community. Those who live alone, or are housebound through illness or frailty, would find it difficult or impossible to walk into a church or to join any activity group. If you are interested in finding out about volunteering to become a befriender, there will be an open evening at High Street Methodist Church on Tuesday 6th May at 7.00pm, where we can discuss further. To find out more, please email Karen Morozova (Chair) at secretary@churchestogetherinpenzance.co.uk and leave your contact details for a call back.
Creation Care Gathering
Thursday 8th May
The next Creation Care Network Gathering will be on Thursday 8th May, 10.00am – 12.00 noon. Ann Petty (whom some of you know as the CCC for Trestholan) will be taking on the helm and will be chairing the gathering. We shall be keeping to our normal format and look forward to hearing from our champions what’s going on in their churches. We shall also be having an Eco Education focus and hearing from Clare Green, our Schools Creation Care Officer, about her recent work with schools. Also, we will be touching on the RE syllabus, Understanding Christianity, and finding out what you do in your own church to welcome young people. Finally, we shall hear from Tom Mainwaring Evans, the new Schools Cut Carbon Officer, about what he does in his role. – Creation Care Network
